Playwrights working under WGGB’s collective agreement with UK Theatre will see an uplift of 3% to their minimum fees, thanks to the work of WGGB negotiators.

The uplift is backdated to 5 May 2025 and also includes a significant increase on the Rehearsal Attendance fees.

The UK Theatre Agreement has a banding system which groups theatres into three categories known as Middle Range Salary Level (or MRSL), hence the three ranges on the rate card (which you can see here).

Under MRSL 1, the total fee for a commissioned play will rise from £10,879.97 to £11,206.37. And under the same band, Rehearsal Attendance fees will rise from just over £76 to £110.

WGGB General Secretary Ellie Peers said: “We welcome the fact that UK Theatre have agreed an uplift of 3% on minimum fees and also recognised the importance of properly paying playwrights for attending, and working in, rehearsals.”
