“Joining the Writers’ Guild was a pivotal decision in my journey as a writer, helping me navigate the often challenging path of building a sustainable writing career. From the start, I recognised the importance of having the backing of a larger organisation. The Guild has been my trade union, the expert I rely on for industry advice, and a steadfast advocate for ensuring that all writers – members or not – are paid fairly and treated with the respect we deserve. Their tireless efforts benefit the entire writing community, from fighting for fair pay to offering events and training that help writers connect and build strong professional networks.

“Believing that you get out what you put in, I’ve always been committed to contributing to the Guild. My journey began in 2010 when I started volunteering on the East Midlands Committee. After moving to London in 2013, I joined the London & South East Committee and later co-chaired the committee with Poppy Corbett from 2015 to 2017. During this time, we delivered a wide range of social and career-development events, networking opportunities, and interdisciplinary panel discussions featuring industry speakers.

“Now, as I reach a more stable stage in my life and career, I’m proud to once again be in a position to give back to the Guild in a meaningful way. The connections I’ve made through my involvement with the Guild have been instrumental in my professional growth. Having the power of a trade union behind me has also lent credibility to my projects, making grant-giving organisations and industry gatekeepers take notice. The Guild has been a constant support throughout my journey, and I remain dedicated to contributing to its mission of empowering writers in all crafts, at every stage of their careers.”
