Gary Thomas
Co-Chair of the Film Committee
I have been in the industry for 20 years as a writer-director and made 17 short films, plus a narrative documentary about being a carer for my mother who had Alzheimer’s. I’ve written five feature screenplays and six TV pilots and have also recently started reading for festivals. As a writer, I’m interested in a different viewpoint, whether that’s from a disabled character’s perspective or from an LGBTQIA+ angle. And every now and again, none of the above!
I first joined the Guild in 2013, when I got funding for my memoirs, and have been on various committees since then. I love being part of an organisation that helps at any stage in a writer’s career, whether it’s looking over a first contract or negotiating payment for writers, as well as stepping in on more serious issues.
