Following a backlash this week about changes to WeTransfer’s Terms of Service, the file transfer service has confirmed that it does not use files uploaded to its service to train artificial intelligence (AI) models (read more about the story here).

The WGGB is glad to see that WeTransfer has responded to complaints, provided clarity about the issue and said that it will not be using their customers’ data to train AI systems.

The WGGB has been clear that urgent action is needed to regulate AI companies and for robust, effective and user-friendly transparency measures to be introduced. Our members’ work should never be used to train AI systems without their permission and a proper licence should be put in place. We will continue to lobby the Government on this. You can read more about our campaigning work in this area here.

Thanks to WGGB members who raised this issue with us. Members can contact [email protected] for individual advice.
