Following year-long negotiations with the broadcaster on the pay disparity between their two flagship soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, ITV have recognised the stellar contribution of the Emmerdale writing team and increased the basic script fee by 5% from August 2018. A further guaranteed 5% uplift has been agreed from August 2019.
WGGB General Secretary,Ellie Peers said; “I applaud the dogged determination of our ITV negotiators who over the past year have kept this on the agenda. Their hard work has paid off and finally the writers have financial recognition of the sterling work they do on the award winning show. There is still a gap but it is now smaller, so this is definitely a positive move from the broadcaster.”
