Sumerah is a screenwriter and playwright with a background in media and law. She is a BAFTA Crew participant and was identified as a rising star in the BBC’s 2017 New Talent Hotlist. She has written for EastEnders and Casualty and her stage credits include James Graham’s Sketching (PW Productions), Jigsaw (Migration Museum) and Veiled & Vinegar (Redbridge Drama). Sumerah also contributed material to Hear Me Now, a collection of audition monologues for actors of colour (Oberon).

Before turning to writing Sumerah won an MBA scholarship at Cass Business school, ran a London radio station and advised government. Sumerah is a keen advocate for inclusion and the importance of representation across all art forms. She is a founding member and now Co-Chair of the newly established Equality and Diversity Committee.
