About / Bio

I’m a London-based writer working primarily in video games and Virtual Reality but also other media such as comics, books and audio/radio. I was co-writer and Senior Narrative Designer on the acclaimed VR thriller Blood and Truth (Sony 2019) starring Colin Salmon, Natasha Little and Felix Scott, Edge Magazine’s Game of the Year 2019. More recently I was Narrative Director with Electronic Arts on their forthcoming Battlefield game, and prior to this I was Principal Writer on Turok: Origins (Saber forthcoming). I’m also the author of the non-fiction book When Worlds Collide – How Video Games Reinvent Storytelling, for Canbury Press (September 2025). In the past I’ve worked on the Sniper Elite and Strange Brigade franchises for Rebellion Developments, and carried out freelance story ideation for Sony’s Team Soho.

Outside of video games, I’ve written licensed tie-in fiction for Big Finish’s Doctor Who and Highlander ranges, as well as short fiction for Black Library’s Warhammer – Age of Sigmar and Moonstone Books’ pulp collections. My novella ‘Dead Kelly’ appeared in the collection Journal of the Plague Year (Abaddon Books 2014) while my original short fiction won the first Pulp Idol award, jointly conferred by SFX Magazine and Gollancz Books. Over the years my journalism has appeared in The Guardian, Edge, ScriptWriter, RetroGamer, the online version of Starburst and for two years I wrote a regular column on games culture for the Chicago-based webzine PopMatters.

As an academic, I wrote, researched, taught and presented widely on the subjects of game writing, digital narrative and transmedia storytelling at institutions such as King’s College London, Bournemouth University, London South Bank University and Western Sydney University. I possess a PhD exploring the interrelationship of storytelling and play in video games (conferred in 2009 by the University of East London) and wrote the book Fantastic Transmedia (Palgrave 2015), an analysis of crossmedia storytelling techniques in large and small-scale transmedia franchises, including Star Wars, Halo, Lord of the Rings, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2022 I wrote and presented ‘The Origins of the Metaverse’ for BBC Radio Four.
