Joe Willis

Region: Yorkshire

About / Bio

Joe Willis is a Queer Northern writer who uses the vast worlds of genre storytelling to explore the strange, surreal and macabre within the everyday. Often inviting you in through a unique lens of familiar settings, offbeat humour and a bittersweet tone. Think Alan Bennett meets Diablo Cody…for a cup of tea in a graveyard.

Their original spec scripts have led to them being selected for the following schemes: BBC Writersroom Northern Voices, BBC Children’s Voices, Screen Yorkshire Flex and BAFTA Connect. They have also written for BBC Sketch Show The Amelia Gething Complex, had short films funded by the BFI Network and had their TV pilot ‘It’s My Party’ performed as part of Sky Studios Table Reads. On top of this they regularly mentor writers and provide script editing services for BFI Network Script Labs.
