David Kline is an award winning filmmaker with experience as a scriptwriter, producer, director and editor. After several years spent training and working as a nurse, including time managing a drug and alcohol dependence unit, he followed his interest in drama at university. He started his media career as a runner and medical adviser with BBC Films before training as a journalist and switching to television, working as a Researcher then progressing to Assistant Producer with BBC Sport.
He arrived in script development via a fortuitous, personal link to US actor, director and producer Laurence Fishburne whom he helped with the development of a screen adaptation of a well-known novella (Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist') for Warner Brothers. David has also worked as a script reader and reporter for several UK film agencies including Script Factory, Scottish Screen and Northern Ireland Screen.
David has co-written a feature film screenplay, a contained thriller, which in summer 2021 was optioned for 2 years by Poli Productions Ltd in Belfast, the film is being produced with Northern Ireland Screen, filming early 2022. David has also written a number of spec, feature film screenplays in a range of genres from horror to social drama, thriller to family drama as well a spec six-part Television Drama series, ‘Prey Drive,’ a dark, suburban thriller.
David has written numerous short film scripts and produced several, including 'Game Over' a co-write with Director Adam Jenkins featuring Blake Harrison, Gemma Whelan and Naomi Battrick, which was a winner of the Performance Film and Media Insurance Short Film Competition 2019 as well as receiving multiple Official Selections at film festivals including the LA Shorts International Film Festival 2018 and the London Short Film Festival 2019. David also wrote, produced, directed and edited the short film 'On the Edge' which was winner of Best Drama (Diamond Award) at the European Independent Film Award (EIFA) summer 2018.
