Sonali Bhattacharyya

I’m a playwright whose productions include 'Slummers' (Cardboard Citizens), '2066' (Almeida Theatre), The Invisible Boy (Tricycle Theatre), These Four Streets (Birmingham Rep), and the South Bank Show award nominated White Open Spaces (Pentabus Theatre). I was one of three playwrights selected for the inaugural Old Vic 12, and was also the 2018 Channel 4 Writer in Residence at the Orange Tree Theatre. I'm  currently under commission to Kiln Theatre, The Coterie, Orange Tree Theatre, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and National Theatre Learning.

I’m interested in telling untold stories and putting characters centre stage who have previously been absent or marginalised. I think theatre can be funnier, more exciting, and more challenging than any other medium, and that’s basically what I’m always trying to achieve.
