About / Bio

Darren is an award-winning, working-class, writer and director. He trained at Rose Bruford College and has written for film, TV, theatre and audio. Credits include EastEnders and Doctors for BBC1 and the BBC Asian Network radio soap Silver Street. Award winning shorts films he has written include the comedy Sodabikes (currently on Amazon Prime) and Sci-Fi film How to be Human (currently on Dust) as well as period drama Sealed with a Kiss and contemporary drama Sections, both of which he also directed. For theatre he has written both small and large scale productions, including drama, opera and musicals. Community plays include JAM TOMORROW and BOOM, both of which had casts of over 60 and included original songs that he wrote with a composer. He has been commissioned to write several feature films, most recently a gritty drama set in Hounslow (in post-production) called Never had a Chance and  a thriller (in pre-production) with Bedlam Pictures, called The Harvest. He also has an action drama in development with New Empire Pictures, they will be taking to market this year. In 2010 he visited India with Sci-Fi London to run writing workshops in colleges in Mumbai and Ahmadabad on writing Science-Fiction films. Darren currently teaches Film and TV at Rose Bruford College, screenwriting at the BFI, and is a visiting lecturer on the MA writing course at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He was a show runner on a continuing drama TV project called RIVERSCROSS and also works as a freelance script consultant and script editor for feature films.
