WGGB and Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru (TAC), Welsh language independent TV producers, have signed off a new collective agreement for writers commissioned by TAC producers and the Welsh language broadcaster S4C. This agreement replaces the old TAC WGGB Agreement, and contains new terms for writers, including but not limited to:

Linguistic adaptation for broadcast: The new agreement recognises that the writer of the Welsh language version of a script for a back-to-back production is writing an adaptation not a literal translation and should be paid properly for this work. The writer should therefore expect to receive the same benefits as the original writer.

Digital first: Scripts initially commissioned for online (non-linear broadcast), will be paid at the same rate as scripts for linear broadcast and include an additional payment for Clic and iPlayer use.

Children’s and pre-school: There are new terms and rates for scripts, including an additional optional advance of 120% of the script fee for seven years unlimited use on S4C services.

WGGB Wales Chair Manon Eames said: “This is great news for members – the agreement has needed review for some time, especially given the changing broadcasting landscape, and has taken many hours of work from all parties. It will definitely mean fairer, and clearer, negotiations for writers moving forward.”

“Newyddion gwych i’n haelodau – mae’r cytundeb wedi bod eisiau adolygiad ers amser, yn enwedig o ystyried y tirlun darlledu newidiol, ac mae’r ailwamp wedi cymryd oriau lawer o waith gan bawb. Bydd yn bendant yn golygu trafodaethau tecach, a chliriach, i awduron yn y dyfodol.”

WGGB General Secretary Ellie Peers said: “I am delighted that the new agreement with TAC significantly improves the contractual terms for writers of Welsh language television. It is a testament to everyone involved in the negotiations to date.”
