1% fee rise for audio drama writers

WGGB has negotiated an above-inflation increase of 1% on minimum fees payable under the union’s BBC Radio Drama Agreement.

General Secretary Ellie Peers said: “Radio and podcast listening has seen a growth in popularity in the past year, but it has traditionally been a poorly paid sector for writers. So winning an above-inflation increase at this time is a real achievement for our negotiators and I hope will be welcome news for audio drama writers.”

The Radio Drama Agreement covers original audio drama, short stories, abridgements and podcast drama, plus there are special rates for Archers writers.

The increase is effective from 9 March 2021 and you can view the rate card here.
