WGGB is proud to present another Celebrating the Writer event.
On 3 September 2015, at the Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey Square, London, we are screening Starred Up, written by Jonathan Asser, which won this year’s Writers’ Guild Award for Best First Screenplay.
Starred Up tells the story of Eric Love (Jack O’Connell), a 19-year-old teenager who’s so violent he’s been moved to an adult prison, where he meets the father (Ben Mendelsohn) he hasn’t seen since he was five.
The screenplay is based on Asser’s own personal experience as a prison therapist and is a brilliant, visceral piece of work. It has rightly earned Asser recognition as a screenwriter to watch.
Jonathan Asser will be in conversation with WGGB President Olivia Hetreed after the screening. This will be followed by a networking event in the bar.
The event takes place from 6pm-9pm on 3 September 2015, at the Shortwave Cinema, Bermondsey Square, London, SE1.
Price: £8 WGGB members, £10 non-members (book online).
