#Heartunions Week 2021

This week is #Heartunions Week (8-14 February 2021) – a time to celebrate trade unions and the important work that they do. Unions help workers get together, stop people being treated unfairly and get a better deal from their employers.

Run by Trades Union Congress (TUC), the week sees a range of activities (find out more on the special #Heartunions website).

How to get involved

  • Join a union! The TUC has a special union finder on its website, and if you’re a writer in TV, film, theatre, radio, books, comedy, animation or videogames, then WGGB is your union, whatever stage of your career you’re at. We welcome everyone – from students, and those who don’t yet have writing credits, to those who have agents or are already well-established. We have a range of membership packages, starting from £9 per month (£30 a year for students). And there are lots of great benefits too (check out this handy member benefits chart and join online).
  • If you’re already a member of WGGB, please ask another writer to join. We’ve achieved so much for writers over the past six decades (see some of our recent wins for writers), but our union is founded on collective strength and so the more members we have the stronger we become. The TUC has produced social media flyers and posers so you can spread the word on social media (download them here).
  • Take part in the TUC’s online #Heartunions events (find out more).

If you’d like to find out more about WGGB, or are a member who would like to get more involved in your union, do drop us a line at admin@writersguild.org.uk or phone 0207 833 0777 (please leave a message). We’d love to hear from you!
