Executive Council Officers
“I started writing for police drama The Bill in 1994, and joined the Guild a few months later – as soon as I was eligible. I’ve written for most of the top-rating TV dramas – Casualty, Emmerdale, EastEnders and particularly the (now brutally axed) daytime drama Doctors, for which I penned over 100 scripts. This included winning an award for Best Single Episode for the Doctors’ special 3000th episode. I’ve also written original dramas for audio and have drama series in development. The point of drama, I think, is to say the unsayable, think the unthinkable and mention the unmentionable. That’s what I try to do.
I’ve been an active WGGB member, part of, or Chair of, the TV, Radio (now Audio) and Equality and Diversity Committees. I was very proud to be elected as Chair of the Guild for three years, 2006-2009, and I’m glad to serve as Deputy Chair now. In these grim and challenging times, the WGGB is needed more than ever. We are bigger and stronger than we have ever been; we have a collective voice which is listened to, and an ability to do what we’ve always done – fight for better pay and conditions for all writers. I’m happy to be part of the fight.”
