“Growing up in a working-class, single-parent household in Northern Ireland, I found my horizons initially limited by distance, circumstance and perception. There was a feeling that we were cut off from the screen industries, that things happened OVER THERE. After making Lincoln my home over 10 years ago, I soon realised this wasn’t just a Northern Ireland thing. The East Midlands region is loaded with talent and ambition, and while much of the industry is based DOWN THERE (or even UP AND OVER THERE!) we have a significant – and significantly, growing – reputation as a creative hub. I’ve been a working screenwriter for around 15 years now, and as part of our great union, am committed to championing our voice, widening the parameters of participation and exploring what a career as an East Midlands writer looks and feels like.
