Sam Potter
Sam is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter.
Her debut play, MUCKY KID, earned her a Most Promising New Playwright nomination at the Offies in 2014 and won her a Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme Bursary in 2015. In 2016, she was appointed Writer in Residence at Papatango, where she wrote HANNA, which opened at the Arcola Theatre in 2018 to four and five star reviews before embarking on a national tour. In 2017, she was appointed Writer in Residence at the North Wall in Oxford, where she was made an Associate Artist in 2018.
Sam’s most recent production THE UNICORN, toured to 12 UK venues including: Arcola, Vault Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Wardrobe Theatre and Oxford Playhouse. The show garnered 10 four and five star reviews and was nominated for an Artists’ Choice Award at Vault Festival in 2023 and an Offie in 2024.
Sam’s play BITTERSWEET/NORMAL won the StageWrite Award in 2023 and was shortlisted for the Traverse Breakthrough Writers Award in 2021. Her play NERVOSA was longlisted for the Bruntwood Award in 2022 and her play CHARLIE CHARLIE was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting in 2020 and reached the Top 40 of the Bruntwood Award in 2017. She is published by Nick Hern Books.
Sam is currently developing several original projects for screen, including a feature film with Western Edge Pictures.
