WGGB is taking part in a Global Day of Solidarity with the WGA Strike on June 14 2023 – we hope that as many of our members as possible will come to our protest in London’s Leicester Square from 1-2pm on 14 June. We have sent all members full details by email, including a registration link to let us know you are coming. If you haven’t received the email, or would like to come, please contact kate@writersguild.org.uk For information about activity in our nations and regions please contact joe@writersguild.org.uk

If you are coming to the protest you can download a printable placard graphic below to make your own placard and add your own slogan of solidarity. Writers on strike in the States have been getting creative with their slogan-writing as you may have seen and we know our members will do the same. We will also have some placards on the day if you don’t want to make your own.

Please also make a big noise on social media on 14 June! We have produced some downloadable social media graphics below.

On the day of the protest please change your Twitter profile photo to the special Global Day of Solidarity one below.

If you are coming to the protest please share you videos and pictures from the protest and on Twitter tag @TheWritersGuild @WGAWest @WGAEast and use the hashtag #ScreenwritersEverywhere – we will retweet, as will our sister union in the US.

If you can’t attend the London protest, please take a photo of yourself (with your own placard and slogans of solidarity) to share on social media using the above handles and hashtags. If you are able to take the photo by an iconic UK location, even better, as this is what writers from around the world will be doing. Secondary industrial action, including striking or picketing in support of another union, is illegal in the UK so you should not take photos outside UK offices of US companies who the WGA is on strike against. Indeed we would advise against taking photos outside any company office, broadcaster, producer etc and stick to locations that are important, iconic or significant to your particular region. If in doubt drop a line to joe@writersguild.org.uk
