My Life as a writer
When did you first realise you wanted to write for a living?
For most of my life. I had my first poem published when I was eight and never stopped writing ever since.
Which writer, past or present, do you most admire?
I admire all the writers in my fellow field. Some writers that have been a huge inspiration to me include Stephen King, JK Rowling, Justin Somper, Roald Dahl and Sarah Waters.
What was your first published (or performed) credit as a writer?
A poem about shells nearly 20 years ago.
Which piece of writing work are you most proud of?
Drinking Poetry, I was able to make it into an audio book as well as an e-book and paperback.
Who or what inspires you to write?
My work as a carer introduces me to lots of great characters. I also take inspiration from my travels and my love for Anime, manga and music.
How do you switch off when you’re not writing?
I’m normally reading, swimming, playing videogames or doing another form of creative outlet.
Which one piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Go out and live. Be inspired!
