My Life as a writer
When did you first realise you wanted to write for a living?
Last year – 2018. But I have been blogging for some time now on my blog Buppha since I love writing. I am also an actress because I love telling good stories and performing and entertaining people. So writing and storytelling seemed to come naturally to me. I am working on my first feature-length screenplay at the moment which I plan to submit to festivals and competitions. I might also make the film myself from my script.
Which writer, past or present, do you most admire?
William Shakespeare, Henrik Ibsen, Oscar Wilde, Hemingway, Fyodor Dostoevsky, James Joyce, F. Scott, Charles Dickens, J. R. R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, Roald Dahl, Agatha Christie, J.K. Rowling, Lewis Carroll, William Golding, Dan Brown, Anthony Burgess, Mary Shelley, Stieg Larsson, Stephen King, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe.
What was your first published (or performed) credit as a writer?
I wrote an action/romance short film Instant Risk, which I also produced, directed, shot, edited, and played the lead actress in it as well. You can see more info on IMDb here.
Which piece of writing work are you most proud of?
The one that I’m working on right now, which I will finish soon, ready to be sent to festivals and competitions. It’s a feature-length drama screenplay that is based on a true story. I just get the feeling, it’s going to be a good script.
Who or what inspires you to write?
The many writers I have admired both past and present. But the real reason is that I love telling good stories. I consider myself a storyteller. That’s why I become an actor, writer and filmmaker.
How do you switch off when you’re not writing?
I just do. Maybe I just get used to it.
Which one piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Keep doing what you love. If writing is your true passion then go for it. Write and read as often as you can to maintain your knowledge and skill.
Why are you a member of WGGB?
Because I am serious with pursuing my career as a writer. And I plan to send and sell my screenplays, network with like-minded people, get industry insight, updates on latest news in the writing business, and the like. So being a member of a WGGB could benefit me in many levels as an aspiring writer.
