“I first joined the Writers’ Guild for purely financial reasons. I’d just landed a job as a radio writer and by entering the Guild pension scheme the BBC would pay an additional contribution on top of my fee. Since then I’ve discovered that the Guild is so much more than pensions, contract vetting, negotiating minimum rates etc. Writing can be a lonely old job and my career has been improved immeasurably by being part of wider community. This can be particularly true of those working outside London. As a fiercely proud West Midlander I’m passionate about making sure the Guild presence is felt in every part of the country and that we’re there to offer advice and support to all writers wherever they come from. I also know that the more you put into the Guild the more you get out it. So if you’re not already a member don’t just join up, but think about getting involved. You’ll be stronger for it – and WGGB will be stronger too.”
