“I first joined the Writers’ Guild when I needed contract advice. The Guild staff were very helpful and looked over the documents for me, offering suggestions over the phone. I work in theatre but through the Guild I’ve met writers from other industries: this has been great fun and expanded my professional networks.
“The Guild negotiate better rates and fairer treatment for writers. All writers are unknowingly supported by the work the Guild does, whether they are members or not.
“Now, more than ever, it’s important to be part of a union. The Guild is able to do more work if it has more members, so please consider joining up, and encouraging your colleagues to.
“I’m proud to represent the theatre writers of the UK as Co-Chair of the Theatre Committee – please get in touch with us if you have a query, or want to become more involved with your union.
“It feels good to give something back through my work with the committee and remember we’re all in it together, part of a UK-wide organisation!”
