Writers from around the globe have converged at the World Conference of Screenwriters in Galway, Ireland, which starts this week (2-3 October 2024).
The conference takes the theme of ‘The Power of Stories and Stories of Power’ and sessions include ‘Screenwriters tackling global issues’, ‘Cultural diversity in an international marketplace’ and ‘Building creative relationships’.
WGGB will be represented at the event by WGGB officials, elected representatives, and screenwriter members invited to contribute, including on a special session on ‘Soaps in the era of prestige TV’.
WGGB General Secretary Ellie Peers, who is attending the event as part of the WGGB delegation, said: “It is fantastic that writers, trade unions and guilds from so many countries can gather to discuss the issues they face and celebrate the collective power of storytelling. TV, film and other media are all now global – and screenwriters and their unions are also taking a global approach in their fight to preserve and improve writers’ pay, terms and rights.”
