Nicola Werenowska
I’m an award winning neurodivergent playwright, radio dramatist and creative writing tutor who’s now keen to move into TV/screenwriting.
After a flirtation with playwriting when I was 16 (my play “20%” was runner-up in the Royal Court Young Playwrights’ Competition), I began writing professionally in 2003, following my life transforming dyspraxia diagnosis. Since then, my work has been developed and produced regionally and nationally with diverse theatre partners including Hampstead Theatre, the National Theatre Studio, the Royal Court, Theatre 503, the Mercury Theatre and Graeae. Recent work includes my 5 star sell out show ‘Silence’ which was on national tour in 2018 and my radio debut as co-writer for Radio’ 4’s Christmas Classic adaptation ‘Amy Dorrit’ in 2019.
My work has been longlisted for national competitions, (Verity Bargate, Bruntwood, Papa Tango) and my play ‘Hidden’ was runner up for the Mercury Prize 2016. I’ve been on attachment to Graeae, a member of the Royal Court National writers’ group, and am Associate Artist at the Mercury. I'm currently associate artist at the Mercury Theatre. I currently have work in development with Graeae Theatre, the Mercury Theatre, the New Wolsey and the Marlowe Theatre. I recently completed a BBC Writersroom Access Group and am developing my 1st TV script.
