** PLEASE NOTE, NOMINATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED AND WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN EARLY 2021 **
WGGB is accepting nominations for its 16th annual Olwen Wymark Theatre Encouragement Awards.
Any WGGB member may nominate anyone who has given them exceptional encouragement for theatre writing during the past year. This is an award for personal encouragement. It is not in recognition of broader, institutional contributions to the writing sector, no matter how well-deserved.
Past winners have included mentors, dramaturgs, artists, theatre companies, directors, subsidised theatres, literary managers, and even local business people who have funded productions.
An awards luncheon/presentation will be held for the winners and those who nominated them in London in February 2021 (pending Covid-19 restrictions).
David James, a former Chair of the WGGB Theatre Committee, who organises the event, said:
“This a wonderful award, which is always warmly appreciated by both the winners and the nominators. It offers the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ and to focus on the positive – ever more important in these difficult times when encouragement is even more vitally important.”
The awards are in honour of playwright Olwen Wymark, lifelong supporter of WGGB and a former chair of its Theatre Committee, who died in 2013.
To nominate, please fill in this online form no later than 31 August 2020. Any enquiries can be emailed to kate@writersguild.org.uk
