Copyright Directive moves step closer to final vote

WGGB members were among the thousands of writers, musicians and artists who wrote to their MEPs about the new Copyright Directive.

And, despite fierce lobbying by the tech industry, their efforts were successful. On 12 September 2018 The European Parliament voted by a solid majority to support the directive and bring a fair deal for writers in the digital age a step closer.

However, despite the celebration, there is still work to be done. The directive now has to go through further negotiations before it goes to a final vote in January next year. No doubt there will be many attempts to water-down the proposals before then and we will do our best to keep you informed.

In the meantime, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to write letters, emails and Tweets.
