Birmingham to host this year’s AGM

For the first time in the 60-year history of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, we’re moving the Annual General Meeting out of London. All WGGB members are invited to attend this year’s AGM, which will be held on Wednesday 20 June 2018 at the Library of Birmingham.

The venue is in the heart of Birmingham and the city is at the hub of the UK rail network. Both the library and many hotels are situated right beside Birmingham New Street rail station.

The event runs from 10.30am to 5pm and will include the following guest speakers:

Roxana Silbert (Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre), Jessica Dromgoole (BBC radio drama) and Deborah Dunnett (Nations and Regions Executive at Channel 4).

After the AGM top comedy writers Dave Cohen (Not Going Out, Have I Got News For You, Horrible Histories) and James Cary (Miranda, Bluestone 42, Milton Jones) will be on hand (5.45pm-6.45pm) to update you on the latest news from the world of comedy commissioning, and to answer any questions you might have about breaking in to the comedy writing world.

The Royal Television Society’s Midlands centre is also inviting WGGB members to a summer drinks reception afterwards, which will run from 7-9pm. Full details in the Final notice and agenda below.

As WGGB approaches its 60th anniversary next year we hope that many members from across the UK will come together to celebrate our past but also determine our future.
